Theories are taught all the time in school right along with facts. There are also other theories out there besides Darwin. Many schools teach all the theories and Biblical creation is also considered a theory. I know many would not agree with that but again, as you pointed out, it should be factual, and it is a theory.

So, I guess this middle school science teacher would have to ask you: prove it. And remember, it must be done with scientific, concrete facts.

8. With what did the first cell capable of sexual reproduction reproduce?

9. Why would any plant or animal want to reproduce more of its kind since this would only make more mouths to feed and decrease the chances of survival? (Does the individual have a drive to survive, or the species? How do you explain this?)

10. How can mutations (recombining of the genetic code) create any new, improved varieties? (Recombining English letters will never produce Chinese books.)

11. Is it possible that similarities in design between different animals prove a common Creator instead of a common ancestor?

and all this from a BIG BANG, huh???just something to think about......

i am a minister and i hear all sides to this particular controversy. it really should not be a controversy because we just don't have concrete evidence (as one poster wrote) to prove that this was the way it happened. science is always identifying something new and something very possible. i, for one, applaud science and marvel at its abilities to define our world and beyond.

i have some close friends who are working with teams of archeologists in saudi arabia and egypt and they are uncovering some fantastic facts regarding the exodus. the evidence is overwhelming and although it does not correspond with how we were taught in sunday school it has proven that yes there was a ass exodus of some culture that moved out of egypt. and furthermore, mount sinai is not the mountain identified these past 1500 years. it is actually located in saudi arabia.

intelligent creation is still very much a theory. the middle school science teacher addressed it above. that teacher is correct. the whole creation story is not based upon facts - but beliefs and faith. and also keep in mind that "intelligent creation" is not a christian belief - it was written in the old testement so therefore it was a hebrew based theory.

when we say we are created in god's own image - what is that image?

physical?

mental?

spiritual?

we clearly cannot identify in what way we were created by the heavenly father (or mother, or creator). i just find it fantastic that we ARE. we are all connected in some way and it seems to me that it must be a spiritual image that represents god.

the other thing is that despite darwin's theories, there has been a good deal of evolution throughout time. this has been proven. look at how much shorter men and women use to be years ago. if the shroud of turin is correctly identified as jesus then he was only 5'2" tall. even in the 1600 and 1700's men and women were 2-4 inches shorter than the average adult now. so practicality and science do place some weight here.

even as a minister i have no problem praying in public. but i am cautious about those whom it might offend especially with other faiths. i am here to spread the gospel. that means sharing it - not forcing it. there is a difference. i do tire of some fellow believers who must force their prayer life publicly. this is not what prayer is about. prayer is not a demonstration - it is a communion, a connection and a communication with the holy spirit/god. if it is performed in a manner to prove a point it is not prayer.

yes our government was founded on religious principles - not just christian. most all were christian but you must remember these were well read men of their time - most studied other religions and any seminarian could tell you this. so often only the founding fathers' christian quotes are referenced. i encourage people to read "the federalist papers" because this would shed a good deal of light on some of these questions presented where religion is involved.

i always caution my members to remember that christ came to shed light (intelligence and love) on the world and that light was to illuminate the darkness(ignorance and hate). when we as christians close our minds to what others say who do not believe as we do we return to the darkness of our minds and souls.

i hope my sentiments have not offended but if they did it would not be the first time. my goal is to reach, preach and teach. i hope i have lived up to some of my own individual expectations.

Much of those 15 items have been scientifically evaulated. Proven? Yes and no to some of those proposed items.

I would consider that word kinda in the Grey area between Black and White. What I would consider cussing would be the same as George Carlin. You Know, The seven words you can never say on television. Well I don't want them said here either but that word is not included in that list :) I think everyone on here pretty much follows the rules alright. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a lively debate. It tends to throw a little humor in the mix. She is also a member and I tend to let the members have a little more freedom since they took the few extra minutes to get actively involved and become part of this community.

That I deleted or simply did not post had several of those seven words you could not say but the rest of them, even the rude uncalled for ones I posted. I don't see how anything has changed because no one is using profanity that I can see. Getting a little close to it I guess but its like coming within a inch of hitting a car.
