The Elwood Police Dept has a new child find system!!! And it works WONDERFULLY!!!
About 4:45pm this afternoon, we heard at work that the missing 4 year old child had been found!!
What a wonderful relief!!! The toddler was near North 12th and J and was found near South E !!!
When I got home from work just after 5 o'clock, there was a message on my answering machine. I hit
play and it was a recorded message... a CHILD ALERT message!!! It told who the child was, gave a
description, what he was wearing and possibly on a little bike. It ask for us to look in our
backyard, our streets and near our home to possibly locate him. That was GREAT!!! What a wonderful
service to the community!!! It was an Amber Alert through every local phone!! CONGRATS TO THE EPD
on doing what it takes to save a child!! Wooo Rah!!!!
squishy you knew the police were busy looking for a child, maybe he didn't hear the window break, why didn't you go get that kid and take him home to his parents and tell them or go get your neighbor and show them what kid did it...or even stop the cop to tell him what that kid did, if the officers windows were up he probable didn't hear a thing....the air con. and police radio were probable going.....some times we as a community have to step up and do something, not raging on you, just suggestions....for example, i was sitting on my porch at 1 in the morning smoking, the lights on the porch were off, these teens walked by and grabbed my neighbors solar powered lights that change colors, he was a big guy but i hollered "you put his light back right now", surprisingly the kid did, now they were older teens and could have come over and beat the snot out of me lol, but at the time i was just looking out for the neighbors, so see some times kids do stupid things and you have to set them straight, they don't need to be cuffed and beat, just pay for the destruction that they have done....
I have a house phone and an answering machine and I didnt get a call, or message. My wife called me on my cell phone, but I was home and the phone never rang. So after she told me I got on the website and listen to the scanner, and I could only hear bits and piece's of what they were saying. But hey good work anyways. The funny thing is, is that in my alley there were kids throwing rocks, and one of the busted out the neighbors window and about the same time a cop showed up, and knew the busted out but didnt do anything. Now I know that they were looking for a kid, and didnt have time for a busted window, but if i were to rob a bank, would they worry about it later? A crime is a crime, now the neighbor is left with a broken window and an officer that was there and just turn his head.
Yea I would agree, even though I don't live there now. From an "outsider" perspective it sure looks like they have come along. Half the battle is public relations and they have come forward miles in this respect.
I went searching my area for a while. Then I came home and listened to the scanner....thanks for having the scanner on this site....and heard that he was found. The system is great and I heard that they can enlarge the call area as they see fit.
I agree! The new Chief, Jason has added and changed a lot of new policies in his short time on the job that have greatly improved the department as a whole. Keep up the good work EPD.

Does anyone know if the other missing child was found?
