Elwood Airport and the Old / Bold Pilots

I was just thinking about the good 'ol days out at the Airport. I was flying a 1946 Stinson Voyager taildragger. It was always a challenge to come back into Elwood because of the hump halfway down the runway. You’d set it down on the mains, hit the hump and then have to land it again. We always got in two landings every time we came back in here. Haha.
It was cool in those days to taxi up to the back side of Sullivan’s and let the carhops bring out chicken baskets and coneys to the planes. I was trying to remember the pilot’s name that used to fly the little Mooney Mite. (?) Bob Grishaw had his Stinson and Dick Pigman flew that big Stinson V-77. Art Anderson had his Aircoupe and Denny Bowman had whatever plane he’d traded for in the last week. They were a great bunch of guys and good pilots… still miss ‘em. Here’s to you fellas!
