Coach John Ward . . . Basketball Coach at Elwood from 1948 -1956. He became Athletic Director during that time and remained as A.D. until he retired in 1970.
    

  He was basketball coach at Tipton prior to coming to Elwood for 16 years and was instrumental in the organization of the Central Indiana Conference. Coach Ward died July 27, 1988, at his home in Elwood at the age of 84.  He had two sons, John, Jr. and Steve. Steve was a graduate of the 1956 class, Coach Ward's last year as the basketball coach.

On August 17, 1999, this additional information was submitted:
   Coach Ward was a charter inductee into the DePauw University Athletic Hall of Fame. It was a very proud time for the entire Ward family and I was lucky enough to be a part of their celebration. I thought you should have this information to include in your memoriam for John Ward.
