Your Old Home Town

Elwood's downtown in the early '50s

Not a lot happening around here except a lot of politicking. Really been a lot of that around here, believe me! Kind of interesting...may be the first time there has been so many candidates who are really up on all that needs to be done. Next Tuesday, May 6th, will certainly be interesting.

We now have a yellow ribbon bow on each light post uptown and many are on homes up and down streets here in Elwood. I was hoping that the town would rally around the yellow ribbons in support for our troops.

Still getting ready for the start of construction on North Anderson Street. That is what all the talk is about right now.

We are in the planning stage for the second annual Memorial Day Parade. Last year's parade was so much more successful that anyone had planned for. We hope that each year will get better with more experienced planning...and more money available to us. The route is from the Elks up South Anderson Street to Main Street and then east to the library. There will be a Memorial Service at the Arch between the library and the YMCA. Last year's service was very moving and this year it should be even more so.

One month...Denstock...the real thing. Who will attend this year? How many new people who will gather with the ones who just can't stay away. Last year, we were so proud to have Lillian and Blair Sullivan there with us. It is amazing to me that Lillian really remembers so many of us from our days in school. They are really a special couple. I see Jeannette and Jack Fortson fairly often. They are another special couple. To know Jeannette is to fall in love with her. Who needs sports people as role models when we have people like this.

Genie Boyer has really started me into being a Bridge fan. I will play every time I get a chance. Who needs to do house work if a Bridge game is available. I wish there was more happening around town to report to you but everyone is really laid back and doing a lot of yard work...guess they don't know about Bridge.

Everyone out there Keep The Faith. Support the people who volunteer to protect us and out way of life. Pray for those who have hard decisions to make. May God hold each of you in the palm of His hand.

Hi Everyone!

I ran across a writing of quotations by a Richard Weber (A Visit to Bridge House) and I've sort of construed it to fit our Panther Den crowd.

April and the sky broods awaiting rain.
Beyond my desk,  your computer letters invite me
To a book-walled room and talk of some of our great adventures.
Your gentle words escort me in with questions.
Happily you recall the past with humorous talk
Of Mac, Coach Ward, Mr. Sullivan, Mrs. Griffin,
Mrs. Allen, Mr. Beavers, Miss Digel,
of our schoolmates, school classes and events of long ago.
All imaged in poses, phrases that slide
One into another till past and present are one.
