Your Old Home Town

There is spring like weather here in your Old Home Town. Things are peeping up from the ground and it won’t be long until a greening up begins. This is a beautiful time of year to see what all is happening around here.

The North Anderson Street project is coming along nicely. The new street lights are in from Main to North E Street. There are also new lights on Chamness Avenue and, of course there are at least 2 down each east/west street which really looks good. The curbing and sidewalks are in as far as North B Street where the Ford dealership is located. It will not be long before the north part of Anderson Street will be as good looking as the south part., especially when the new trees are planted. I still am not sure just how much has been done to the creek at North Anderson and F streets. It is impossible to get a car to that site and the mud is so bad there is no way I can walk it at this time. As soon as I can I will be at that site so I can let you all know what is happening there.

Willkie Park on North Anderson Street is getting a really good face lift. The  bridge over the creek from the park to the baseball fields is finished and does it ever look good. The drive has been put in, it curves from Anderson Street through the park and back to Anderson Street. It will be one way, of course, and will have the same street lights along the drive.

There are projected plans to do a new housing development on North 9th Street where the old factories used to be. This would be around North C to J Streets on the west side on 9th. Everything that is being built is filling up so there must be a demand for housing here.

Growth along State Road 37 north of Noblesville is amazing and it seems inevitable that growth is heading this way.

We are still hoping the grant for the uptown green spaces will be approved by the Department of Natural Resources.

Jerry Bridges of the Madison County Council of Governments told me the first of February he was working to get it sent in so maybe it will not be long until we know something about that. It is for the park along the old Pennsylvania Railroad site. When this is finally approved and finished, the park will be known as “Penn Park.” Sounds kind of nice doesn’t it?

So much is happening but it all takes a while to complete so sometimes there is not a lot of new stuff to report. Just letting you all know how things are moving along is all that can be done. As the weather gets nicer and I can get out an walk around I will be able to get a better picture to tell you about.

Until next Megaphone, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Sharon (Benedict) Hurst '53
