Lynn (Davies) Funk lives in the Phoenix, Arizona, area. She has come a long way since her graduation from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1967. She told me in her "interview" that not many people in her high school class even knew that her first name was Stephanie. Funny, I don't think that has changed much in over 30 years!
Most of you met Lynn when you joined the Den because she sent you a "Welcome to the Den" message asking for your birthday and anniversary so that she could post them in the Den files for future greetings! The Southwest Dennites met Lynn when she helped co-hostess the Southwest Den Meet last February.
Following high school, she obtained several Associate specialty degrees, a Bachelors Degree in Business and a Masters Degree in Business (MBA). The understatement of the year might be that she has "a passion for learning new knowledge. A mutual friend of ours told me that "Lynn can do anything with a computer. Absolutely anything. She's a real genius." Since this friend is a computer teacher, I guess we'd better believe her.
In high school and junior high Lynn was a majorette having taken lessons from Tudy Smith from fourth grade on.
Since high school, Lynn has been actively involved in some form of physical fitness. Long distance running has been a passion for 25 years. She has run 6 marathons since 1983 and about 25 half-marathons -- for the non-runners in the crowd, a marathon is running non-stop for 26.6 miles, about the distance from Elwood to Marion. The half-marathon is her favorite: "a good workout, but you aren't wiped out." Lynn also enjoys reading, puzzles, cryptograms, and a variety of different activities.
She found out about the Den from her Aunt Toots, Catherine (Pethoud) Davies ’48. When Lynn was surfing she found a site . . .
. . . where Elwood graduates were listed and she found her Aunt Toots. From that site one can e-mail others and that led Lynn to the Den site and eventually being one of our members and a Birthday Gal.
She enjoys the Panther Den because it helps keep her in touch with her "roots and people who are from the Elwood area." With the Internet Lynn has connected with old high school and college friends and made new friends along the way. She feels the "Internet offers another effective medium of communication and learning. There is sooooo much information on the Internet . . . and it is easy to access."
Lynn is married to her "wonderful buddy" Pete Funk. He has 3 daughters, and they have 3 grandchildren. Lynn's parents Tom (Arwin) and Marlene Davies, also Den members, live within 5 miles of her. Her two younger sisters, Christie and Pam, also live in the Phoenix area. Brother Dana keeps the home fires burning living here in Elwood and running the Auto Parts story. Another sister lives in Pennsylvania.
Lynn and Pete have been doing some home repair on high dollar homes in their area. She has also been teaching computer skills to seniors and is considering substitute teaching. Her area, as all over, is in desperate need of subs.
Lynn and Pete are in the process of building a new house. When finished Lynn is looking forward to decorating it with lots of tulips which she says is her favorite flower.
A Moment in Time
The
Sweetness Of You

Wakening
from a warm and gentle sleep..
I
allow myself to drift back into yesterday...
Memories
float back...giving me pleasure and
Letting
me...once again drink in the very essence
Of
you....
Remembering
the excitment of waiting for your call..
Brings
joy and the feeling of being loved into my soul....
My
heart is filled with the sweetness of you....
We
say "hello" and that sensual voice of yours washes
Over
my very being....my heart skips a beat and for a
"Moment
in time"...I can't seem to breathe...I am lost
In
my love for you....
We
share memories of childhood...yesteryear...
Smiles
cross our faces...we laugh...deep ..loving..caring..
Laughs
that hug us and reach out across "time" and
Bring
us to the present...
With
words of love we touch one another....our passion
Is
felt...we dream and hope for the future....
We
hold close the present and through it all....
I
will treasure and hold in my heart....the sweetness of you.
