James Allen "Fiddlin
Jimmie" Raines, age 73 - Lifelong resident of Elwood - was lifted
to share his music and laughter in Heaven on Friday, July 28, 2006 at
St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was
born July 27, 1933 in Elwood, Indiana. He retired in 1990 from Delco
Remy in Anderson where he worked as a utility man and also worked in
machine repair for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elwood Moose Lodge, the Elwood
Eagles Lodge, and the Indiana Blue Grass Association. He loved bluegrass
music, and he played with many Bluegrass bands throughout his career.
Survivors include: Wife whom he married February 4, 1956 - Cecelia M. (Heagy)
Raines of Elwood; 6 Children - Margaret "Peggy" and husband
Roy Buckner of Anderson, Kim and husband Duane Alsip of Anderson, Candy
Raines and Fiancee Rick Petrie both of Indianapolis, James Allen II and
wife Lisa Raines of Anderson, Beth and husband Reid Myers of Westfield,
and Joseph Andrew and wife Michelle Raines of Elwood; 11 Grandchildren -
Mellissa and husband Jeremy Ramsey, Kelly and husband Robbie Allman,
R.J. and wife Andrea Buckner, Jami and husband Dave Contino, Ashley and
husband Chris Sparks, Nathan Alsip, Alyssa Alsip, Amanda Raines, Drew
Raines, Alex Raines, and Mallory Myers; 8 Great-Grandchildren - Brianna,
Taylor, and Alexis Ramsey, Kylee and Landon Allman, Austin and Kyan
Sparks, and Mia Contino. He was preceded in death by: Parents - Griffith
A. and Pansy Fern (Knotts) Raines and Brother - Donald Lee Raines.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, July 31, 2006 at
Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Bill Abresch of the
Southside Wesleyan Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will take place
in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from
2 to 7 PM Sunday July 30, 2006 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer
