Without Them
A Tribute
to Someone Special

"Nan," as she tells small children to call her, is a very special person. She is a friend to all and touches everyone she meets with her kind, sweet smile and cheerful personality. Everyone is made to feel welcome to her home whether it be for a patio party or an overnight stay.
Recently she proved her house even has "rubber walls" as she put up several members of her own family and two members of the Den family for extended visits. Even with this influx of guests our "Party Angel" managed to help with Denstock while entertaining guests at night. All of this was done without ever losing her natural good humor and smile.
But this is only one facet of this wonderful lady we all can be proud to call friend. Sharon is also the driving force behind Breast Cancer Awareness in Elwood. Being a breast cancer survivor herself and knowing personally what a lost feeling it can bring to women and their families, Sharon set out to form Robin's Rest, a place where women can be informed about breast cancer and feel at ease learning and asking questions. The group is also instrumental in informing women about the need for regular mammograms and in finding funds for those who cannot afford this test.
Aren't Angels supposed to go to Heaven and sing praises to God for all eternity? This Angel is already doing exactly that when she puts her beautiful alto voice to work in the St. Joseph Church choir every Sunday. She gives her time to the Elwood Historical Society which is a group that is involved with preserving the history of our great town. From this has evolved her involvement in next year's Sesquicentennial Committee also. Sharon and husband, Joe, are also both active members of Kiwanis and have recently joined the Elks Lodge where we should soon see her working with all her boundless energy.
Sharon is also very active in the Elwood Main Street Committee. Whenever you drive through Elwood, think of our Angel Sharon who helped light up Anderson Street with the beautiful new, vintage design lights. Look at the benches her group put downtown -- maybe sit on one and gaze at the flowers that she helped plant in the pots -- and reflect on the life of one woman who is doing so much for so many: Our Angel #2, our gracious hostess, our cheerful, friendly Sharon, has worked so tirelessly to make this little corner of the world a better place for all of us.
